Severe drought for Western KY

by

1. The pattern is mainly dry this week but quite a bit wetter next week.

Here is an update on the West KY Drought.

Currently Bowling Green is almost 5 inches below normal for the year with rain. Lexington Down 4 inches. Louisville has a surplus, while Jackson and London are down 1-3 inches from normal in terms of rainfall.

Why wetter next week?

– several fronts in the region

– watching the gulf coast for tropical development along a decaying front. Ideal for tropical development that can move north into our region

– Main ridge shifts east allowing for a moister airmass to move in

Still expect several nice days ( can’t rule a passing shower) leading to hotter temps this weekend. However the ridge looks a bit weaker today. This has two results, storm chances/fronts are quicker to move in taking down the expected highs a bit say the 80’s. Storm chances may start as early as Sunday based on the ECMWF.
