My thoughts on weekend storm

by

Modeling has come around to the idea of a more phased system which in turn tracks further north spreading precipitation into the southern and eastern regions. Overall I agree with this thinking. In fact I think it may correct even further to the north with another set or two of model runs. As it stands out with the current modeled track the best chance for accumulating snow is across southern and eastern KY with the mountains southeast seeing the most snow.

– Highs Friday and Saturday should get into the 40’s if not the 50’s for some. After a mostly sunny Friday, clouds increase Saturday as the system draws near.

– Saturday night rain becomes likely and with dyanmic cooling changes to snow by Sunday morning. Snow is likely Sunday morning south and east before ending.

– The upper low will track northwest of the surface low and under this should be a band of snow that could very well be moderate to heavy at times, though not the extreme of the 12z NAM more than likely.

– my thinking of a northward adjustment in the track would bring more areas of central Kentucky into the mix

Mitch, the 18z nam took it south. Do you think 0z may come back north?

the 00z Nam has followed my thoughts on track. This run takes it to the extreme with QPF and dynamical cooling. Major heavy wet snow for most if correct.

I saw where the 18z nam was a rouge run. The 0z brings it back north and gives cky a thumping of snow 🙂
