Snow map for Fri-Sat, thoughts on Monday night

by

I’m really liking the trends in modeling for both systems as a snow fan.

We have a frontal system moving through Friday afternoon. Ahead of the system a region of increased omega lift should develop a period of rain and snow showers across southern and eastern KY including the bluegrass. North of a Glasgow to Somerset line this transitions to snow by early evening.

An additional disturbance with addtional forcing brings another band of snow showers Friday night focused on northern KY. The upslope and or lake effect ( location) kick in first for the 1-65 regions Saturday morning then into the bluegrass and southern KY during the day. I still expect model qpf to be slightly low for Saturday.

Overall expect periods of rain and snow showers Friday afternoon changing over snow showers for Friday night and Saturday. Temps will fall from the 40’s Friday into the 20’s and low 30’s for Saturday. Snow will stick and create slick spots. winds will pick up from 10-15 mph as well.

Areas such as Bowling Green and far southern KY will stay slightly warmer keeping accumulations down. However the rest of us not in southern or southwestern KY have a good shot at 1-3 inches depending on how much snow shower activity you get.

Overall the mix regions should see some light accumulation under an inch. again the 1-3 is through Saturday. the 3’s should be mainly in upslope regions.

The euro continues to lead the charge in a colder and wetter set-up Monday night and could bring several hours of moderate snow to the region perhaps even 4 to 5 inches from Bowling Green to Somerset regions if all goes right. Before getting to crazy the GFS has less QPF and is warmer still with an inch or two for most.
