discussion2: squall line forming over southern IND/ILL/West KY

by

a squall line of thunderstorms is forming in zone C over southern ILL/IND and west KY. conditions have cleared in these regions with increasing instability and forcing present to allow this squall line to develop and strengthen throughout the afternoon. Thus the SPC has issued a tornado watch for the region. The main threat for gusty winds is for wind gusts from 40-80 mph and hail. Several warnings have gone up over Indiana.

in addition we have a secondary batch of storms where the shear values are slightly higher over southeast Ky. This is where the first warning of the day has been issued for

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN JACKSON KY HAS ISSUED A

* SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING FOR…
  NORTH CENTRAL BELL COUNTY IN SOUTHEAST KENTUCKY…
  SOUTHERN CLAY COUNTY IN SOUTHEAST KENTUCKY…
  KNOX COUNTY IN SOUTHEAST KENTUCKY…
  SOUTHERN LAUREL COUNTY IN SOUTH CENTRAL KENTUCKY…
  NORTHEASTERN MCCREARY COUNTY IN SOUTH CENTRAL KENTUCKY…
  SOUTH CENTRAL PULASKI COUNTY IN SOUTH CENTRAL KENTUCKY…
  EXTREME EAST CENTRAL WAYNE COUNTY IN SOUTH CENTRAL KENTUCKY…
  NORTHERN WHITLEY COUNTY IN SOUTH CENTRAL KENTUCKY…

* UNTIL 215 PM EDT

* AT 135 PM EDT…NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE DOPPLER RADAR INDICATED A
  SEVERE THUNDERSTORM CAPABLE OF PRODUCING QUARTER SIZE HAIL…AND
  DAMAGING WINDS IN EXCESS OF 60 MPH.  THIS STORM WAS LOCATED NEAR
  WIBORG…OR 5 MILES NORTH OF WHITLEY CITY…AND MOVING EAST AT 65
  MPH.

My main thinking is the activity that is strong over southeast KY will be isolated with the squall line being of main focus. Same threats apply.
