update on mid week rains

The more typical la-nina weather pattern since the middle of FEB has led to a very wet pattern in recent weeks with some river flooding still ongoing. Drought which was heading into the severe range is going away.

US Drought Monitor, March 1, 2011

Tuesday night and Wednesday morning another period of gusty showers and thunder moves into the region moving east by the afternoon.

Behind this period of precipitation I’m becoming more concerned another thin line of thunderstorms develops. The break in the action may be just enough for marginal instability to become realized with cold air aloft hail would be more of a threat along with gusty winds from any strong storms along this line. This secondary line of storms should move through Wednesday evening.

Overall by Wednesday night rainfall amounts around an inch are likely. This may continue to lead to increased river levels across the region.
