forecast for the week

1. I will update the forecast on Tuesday then I’m going to Rhode Island for my Grandmother’s 100th birthday party and will be gone from Wednesday to Monday which is also the first day of classes at WKU. It is possible there may be a week between updates I will leave a 7 day forecast on in words on Tuesday for this time period.

2. Even though this week will be warmer than average with more needed rain likely there still a few tricky spots.

3. Monday should be mostly sunny with highs from 50-57, the best day of the week. Tuesday will be followed up with more clouds as a backdoor cold front approaches as a result temps will be a bit cooler with upper 30’s to start and highs near 50. rain showers should begin to develop along this boundary as warmer and moister air is lifted along it these showers will be off and on through Wednesday night. The 00z nam and 00z gfs bring in enough low level cold air Wednesday morning for a period of freezing rain for the northern part of the state. Highs Wednesday should be in the mid to upper 40’s. gfs surface map

4. the main low approaches Thursday morning with periods of rain throughout the day. However once again modeling is trying to drill low level sub freezing surface cold for a period of freezing rain thursday morning across the north. take a look at the gfs surface map. the nam has the 32 line down into ky.

1/4 to 1/2 inch could fall Thursday. I suspect Friday will be dreary with highs in the 40’s with the low lingering in the region. After this week I see a teleconnection pattern very similar to the first part of Jan with a negative epo, ao and nao. This time though i think the arctic air will not be as dominant allowing for storminess as well.
