…HIGH WIND WATCH IN EFFECT FROM LATE TUESDAY NIGHT THROUGH
WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON…

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN LOUISVILLE HAS ISSUED A HIGH WIND
WATCH…WHICH IS IN EFFECT FROM LATE TUESDAY NIGHT THROUGH
WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON.

* TIMING: THE STRONGEST WINDS WILL BEGIN EARLY WEDNESDAY MORNING
FROM AROUND 5AM EST AND WILL LAST UNTIL ROUGHLY 4PM EST
WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON…WITH THE BEST CHANCE OCCURRING WEDNESDAY
  MORNING FROM 9AM TO NOON.

* WINDS: SUSTAINED WINDS OF 25 TO 35 MPH ARE EXPECTED…AS WELL AS
WIND GUSTS OVER 50 MPH AT TIMES…ESPECIALLY IN THE HIGHER
TERRAIN OF THE BLUEGRASS REGION OF KENTUCKY.

* IMPACTS: VEHICLES ON NORTH-TO-SOUTH ROADWAYS…ESPECIALLY HIGH
PROFILE VEHICLES…WILL HAVE EXTREME DIFFICULTY TRAVELING ON
WEDNESDAY. IT IS POSSIBLE VEHICLES COULD BE BLOWN OFF OF
ROADWAYS. SOME LOOSE ITEMS LIKE GARBAGE CANS…LAWN FURNITURE
AND OTHER SUCH ITEMS MAY BE BLOWN AWAY. SMALL BRANCHES COULD
ALSO BE SNAPPED AND BLOWN DOWN IN THESE HIGH WINDS.

– heavy rain should spread into the region Tuesday morning as temps rise from the mid 30’s to low and mid 50’s by the early morning hours Wednesday. There may even be a few thunderstorms Tuesday night for the south and east any storm could become strong due to the already strong surface winds.

– An Arctic  front comes through Wednesday morning and temperatures will crash into the 20’s by days end as rain showers may end as flurries.

– Thursday will be cold and windy across the region as temps don’t reach however winds should be lighter only about 10-15 mph. This will still lead to wind chills in the 10’s making it time to break the winter gear.

– Thermal profiles on the models look warmer for Friday into Saturday with all of them suggesting that this event could either way. Right now i’m thinking snow north and snow to rain south with some ice as a possibility as well. I could see a few folks get 2 or 3 inches if everything works out right. expect a few model swings with this system.

  1. Michael Says:

Thickness profiles were marginal at best on yesterdays model runs for the Saturday system and after looking at the 00z GFS it pretty much looks like a rain event close to the OHIO River. This winter is panning out much like the last 10yrs. Just can’t get the jet streams to line up right. Oh well…not much you can do about it.
