light precip update

by

precip is spreading south to north across the state with an extended period of verga to start. again this will be a light event with under 2 inches of snow and sleet accumulation for most and will end by friday am. to recap the ground is warm and accums will be limited by that roadways also should stay wet but minor travel problems are not out of the question as a winter weather advisory has been issued from a bowling green to richmond to ashland line and areas to the south as those regions have a better chance of seeing over 1 inch of snow and sleet. to the south of the HRP a rain/snow mix will fall limting accums there.

the acception will be the hazard and jackson areas where the boundry layer is favorbale for snow/sleet and a burst of hvy precip will move through this evening. the hvy precip may be better served to overcome the warm ground  and produce more qpf, for these few counties accums of 2-4 inches are possibile as the models have enough qpf for 6 inches of snow b/c of the mix and warm ground accums will be lower.

ruc model  10 pm

it shows snowfall rates reaching an inch an hour at times with lighter snow/sleet spreading into areas south of 1-64 and south of the blue 0 line rain/ice is falling.
